How much do pet friendly hotels in St. Augustine charge for a dog?

Across the 33 hotels we list in St. Augustine (November 2026), we hold a stated pet fee for only 3, and all three charge a flat $75 per stay, per Hilton's page for each hotel. Two carry the Historic District in their name, DoubleTree by Hilton St. Augustine Historic District and Hampton Inn St Augustine Downtown Historic Distric, and the third is Homewood Suites by Hilton St Augustine San Sebastian.

Because all three charge $75 once per stay, the pet fee at these St. Augustine hotels does not grow with each extra night. On the other hotels we list here, a missing fee means we have not found one stated, not that the pet stays free. Pet policies change. Confirm with the hotel when you book.

For scale, room from-prices across the 33 hotels run from $64 to $686 a night, median $156, for a stay three weeks out, and the $75 pet fee above is charged once on top.

Which St. Augustine hotels allow large dogs, cats or two pets?

Homewood Suites by Hilton St Augustine San Sebastian is the only hotel we list in St. Augustine with a stated weight limit as high as 75 lb (November 2026). We hold a stated limit for 4 of the 33, from 40 lb to 75 lb, median 45 lb, so with a large dog, call the others before you book.

Three of the hotels we list state that they accept cats as well as dogs: Hilton Garden Inn St Augustine-Historic District, Home2 Suites By Hilton St. Augustine I-95 and Hampton Inn & Suites St. Augustine-Vilano Beach. For two pets, 5 hotels state a maximum per room, and all 5 allow two or more.

Outside the 6 Hilton hotels whose policies we read on Hilton's own pages, we hold no pet details for the St. Augustine hotels we list, so ask about the fee, the weight limit and the species before you book.

Are dogs allowed on St. Augustine Beach?

Yes: dogs are allowed on St. Augustine Beach as long as they stay on a leash, per Florida's Historic Coast. On St. Johns County beaches, the county requires the leash at all times, including in the water. Among the hotels we list, two carry a beach in their name: Ocean Sands Beach Boutique Inn-1 Acre Private Beach and Hampton Inn & Suites St. Augustine-Vilano Beach.

Florida's Historic Coast, the area's tourism office, lists Vilano Beach, Butler Beach and St. Augustine Beach as open to leashed dogs. The exception is Anastasia State Park, where it says pets are not permitted on the beach. It also warns that dogs can overheat on St. Augustine Beach and suggests bringing shade and plenty of drinking water.

St. Johns County beach rules require you to pick up pet waste, and bags are available at most beach walkovers and vehicle access ramps. Birds and sea turtles must not be disturbed, and flashlights and lanterns are not permitted during sea turtle nesting season, which matters for a late walk.

What can you do in St. Augustine with a dog?

At Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, leashed dogs are allowed on the exterior grounds but not inside the fort, on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Florida's Historic Coast says visitors and their pets are welcome to spread a blanket on the lawn outside.

South of the city, Fort Matanzas National Monument allows pets on a 6-foot leash in the park, on its beach and on the Coastal Hammock Nature Trail. Pets other than service animals are not allowed in the visitor center, on the boat or at the fort. The National Park Service says the leash also protects dogs from sharp oysters.

In town, Florida's Historic Coast names the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park as pet-friendly. It says pets are welcome on tours of the Spanish Military Hospital Museum and the Oldest Wooden School House, and small leashed dogs on San Sebastian Winery tours. It adds that many local restaurants welcome dogs.

  • Paws Dog Park, inside Treaty Park at 1595 Wildwood Drive: leash-free, with a fully fenced small dog park and a fully fenced large dog park, per St. Johns County.
  • Ron Parker Park, 607 Old Beach Road: St. Johns County lists a dog park among its amenities.
  • Joe Pomar Park, 1600 Masters Drive: a dog park operated and maintained by the City of St. Augustine.
  • Elsewhere in St. Johns County: Davis Park in Ponte Vedra Beach has two large fenced dog areas with a pond, and Veterans Park in St. Johns has a 3-acre dog area split by size, per Florida's Historic Coast.

What rules apply to dogs in and around St. Augustine?

St. Johns County Animal Control enforces County Ordinance 2017-36, the leash law for dogs and cats. The county's Animal Code requires dogs off their owner's property to be leashed or restrained under the owner's direct control, with dog parks as the only exception. Direct control means a leash, cord or chain no longer than 12 feet. At Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, the National Park Service sets a shorter 6-foot limit.

Getting around without a car, pets may ride the Sunshine Bus, St. Johns County's public bus, with a passenger if they are in a carrier. With a car, the National Park Service at Fort Matanzas warns not to leave a pet inside a parked vehicle, because temperatures can rise quickly.
